5.1 Assess student learning
When assessing students work, I use a mix of formative assessment and summative assessment. This includes question aspects of the Google Classroom (see Standard 3.3 - Use teaching strategies) and group tasks (See Standard 2.1 – Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area and 2.2 – Content selection and organisation) as well as their final assessment piece. When assessing their summative work, I use the Australian Curriculum and embed it into the rubrics I grade them against. I use the Australian Curriculum as the heading then put that into student-friendly language under the A, B, C, or D grade (E grades refer to work not being submitted so is not included on my task sheets and rubrics) banner (see Year 10 Advanced English Text Comparison task). This allows me to make sure that the work is being appropriately graded and that my students can easily understand what they are being marked on.

5.2 Provide feedback to students on their learning
I provide feedback to students through the Google Classroom and this includes in document comments as well as a longer, more comprehensive comment which I go into detail about what they can improve on. This allows for me to be able to pin point where improvement or alterations can be made and students to be able to complete the edits in real-time. This also allows me to work one on one with students and not have to be attempting to see the work via one laptop screen.

5.3 Make consistent and comparable judgements
I undertake moderation with colleagues within my faculty and this is undertaken to ensure that the grading is consistent across all classes. I do, however, highlight that this can be a challenge due to the level of differentiation required and the streaming that occurs within the faculty that I am a part of.
However, I do utilise comparison of grading within my two Year 8 English classes and ensure that the grades given between the two are consistent and fair. I also monitor the A-E grades for all of my classes to highlight where students are on the grade scale and where assistance may be needed

5.5 Report on student achievement
I report on student achievement or concerns to parents via both email and telephone calls. This allows me to be able to highlight to parents where their student may be struggling and what I have put into place to support them. I have found that this has enabled me to connect with the student more as I have an increased understanding of their needs and their individual situation. I record this communication on DayMap for all staff members to be able to see, in order to understand if there are any trends in their achievement in their schooling.
